A University of Georgia study, led by Dr. Orion Mowbray, found that children raised by caregivers with alcohol-use problems face prolonged post-traumatic stress symptoms compared to those without such caregivers. The research, which followed children in the welfare system from ages 8 to 16, revealed that trauma symptoms persisted longer in children whose caregivers had alcohol issues. This highlights the need for targeted interventions and long-term treatment for families affected by alcohol abuse to improve children's well-being.
